Guys..what do you think.  Are we ready for that ?  Since last week I’m preparing a paper for EPU. Tomorrow I will finalise it.  In my opinion, this should be the Government agenda.    Simply because government is the driver for the economy.  Although the government keep saying private sector is the driver for the economy.  I’m still positive that the government should play the vital role to push the idea further. From my discussion with a few companies they are willing to follow whatever government lead them to go.

Comeback to the outsourcing hub..According to AT Kearney report Malaysia falls at number 3 behind China and India for outsourcing destination.  But their report not specifically referring to manufacturing outsourcing.  The report includes BPO, call centres etc.  However, Malaysia still have advantages compared to China and India. I should say, Malaysia still have its competitive edge.

Our engineering supporting industries are well known globally with their quality products and on time delivery.  This industry has served many MNCs in Malaysia.  This industry can serve many other industries namely, aerospace, automotive, M&E, E&E, defense, oil and gas, medical devices and etc.  Therefore, we have the expertise and capabilities to do that.

When I was in Europe last year, I was told by the foreigner that, they outsourced some of the components from Malaysia.  I’m impressed.   Our engineering supporting company should be ready and equip themselves with knowledge including supply chain management skills.  The reasons why the company outsource, is simply because they want to reduce their cost and concentrate to their core activity and pass the none core activity to the specialise company.

Frankly speaking, this is the right time to promote this idea.
